ZERO CARBON EXPO

The Zero Carbon Expo is a free public meeting to discuss the climate issue and the most effective means of reducing our emissions. There'll be limited places so Please Book here

Dr Liam Phelan from Newcastle Uni will be the Keynote Speaker on the need for urgent cuts to emissions. He is a sustainability expert and has been studying the Earth as a complex adaptive system comprising human-social and ecological elements. He has studied its key characteristics, including thresholds, non-linear change, and capacity for surprise.

The next speaker will be Tom Hunt. Tom and his friend Simon Leslie are the “Sail for Climate Sanity” team. They will be sailing by kayak from Port Kembla to Newcastle over 3 weeks (see photo) to raise awareness of the need for urgent action. They aim to arrive in Newcastle before the big event #PeoplesBlockade2023 in the harbour on the 24th. Tom will speak about their trip so far and on his experience of electric vehicles. Sail For Sanity

A number of other speakers will present on solar energy, batteries, EVs and the range of options available to all of us to work for the Zero Carbon future:

Geoff Cameron on the Eco Village's own Smart Grid, 400kW of PV and a battery system that provides an independent energy supply for the Village.

Gary Adair, expert on roof top solar

Jackie Pearson, on the influence of media on climate progress

Richard Weller on how to cut emissions

A range of actions for reducing emissions, ranked by effectiveness, are included in the NSW Community Plan and its supporting technical report, Pathway 2022, (available on https://climatefuture.org.au/reports/). There are options for everyone - the individual, the wider community and government.

Finally, there will be a panel session for questions after the presentations.
