Zombie Walk and Thriller Dance for climate Action!
The NSW Government are having budget estimate hearings over Halloween - sounds terrifying!
Join the THRILLER dance and ZOMBIE WALK to let them know we want climate action included in future planning for a safe and liveable planet.
UPDATED EVENT DETAILS: 26 October 2023
On October 29 we will gather at Town Hall Square Sydney for:
- facepainting + prep 10.30am
- a few short speeches from a nurse and Wage Peace - Disrupt War 11.00am
- a thriller dance rehearsal ~11.10am
- then take our thriller dance and best zombie walk to the streets of Sydney
- followed by a picnic with Food Not Bombs and music in Town Hall Square at 12.30pm
The picnic will be a space to sit and remove make up so participants can attend @Protest: Stop the Genocide in Gaza. Free Palestine in Hyde Park North.
Anyone needing to sit down or eat with the group is welcome.
Dress: zombies, halloween or no costume necessary. In light of what is happening in the world and the pain in our community we ask you favour costumes that are fun (not-realistic looking wounds/blood) so everyone feels welcome to participate.
Bring: Your gorgeous self ready to thriller dance, stumble along as a zombie, or signs and banners that say “Earthcare not warfare” and demanding climate action NOW!
We’re demanding climate action now from government and industry:
- No new fossil fuel (coal, gas, oil) projects or funding in line with the IPCC recommendations
- End native forest logging and protect biodiversity
- ACT NOW! We need action immediately to curb the worst effects of climate disaster by 2025 (2050 is too late).
No PEOPLE on a Dead Planet is an event focusing on humans, human health and peace in the climate emergency.
We’re highlighting that we - people - need a safe and liveable planet to survive. We have to address the #ClimateEmergency to survive.
There is HOPE! By coming together and raising our voices, we can turn the situation around by demanding climate action.
Halloween is about celebrating and commemorating all souls, living and dead - to celebrate the value of life. This action is a community-friendly dance action designed to bring people together and celebrate halloween and life in a joyous way through movement.
Accessibility: We want this event accessible for everyone.
There will be a slower contingent behind those dancing for those with mobility issues and the route has been shortened.
Concerns or requests, message the Extinction Rebellion Sydney page or speak to marshalls on the day. We'll do our best.
We acknowledge this event will take place on the lands of the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation. We pay respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We recognise their fight to prevent ecological destruction since colonisation (which continues today) and we join their continued resistance when we stand up for climate and ecological action and justice.
