Why

it will be the 22nd anniversary of the sinking of SIEV-X on Oct 18th. You are invited to attend the unveiling of the SIEV-X memorial on the 22st Anniversary of the​ tragic sinking.

We will hold a remembrance vigil at 1pm.

This coming Wednesday it will be 22 years that the Australian government knowingly allowed the SIEV-X to sink. 353 people drowned, to serve the policy of deterrence.

The memorial has been commissioned by Newcastle City Council
to express its continuing commitment to Newcastle being a Refugee Welcome Town

Getting there:

  • Take the 12.40 Newcastle-to-Stockton Ferry.
  • Turn right on exiting the wharf and walk 500 m.

The Memorial is at a sandstone block by the shoreline near the  playground there.
