According to a Zogby poll released on March 28, 72% of US troops in Iraq support US withdrawal within a year. Of the 944 troops surveyed, 29% wanted an immediate withdrawal and just 23% thought that US forces should remain in Iraq "as long as they are needed". Forty-two per cent of troops surveyed were "unsure" of their mission in Iraq, 85% thought that a major reason was to "retaliate for Saddam's role in the Sept. 11 attacks" and 93% said locating and destroying weapons of mass destruction is not the reason for continued military action.
