Friends of Cuba in Australia are invited to take part in the sixth International Brigade of Volunteer Work and Solidarity with Cuba, which will run from April 25 to May 7, 2011.

The tour, which is organised by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), will coincide with the 50th anniversary of Cuba’s defeat of the US invasion at the Bay of Pigs (Playa Giron) in the Matanzas province.

As well as visiting the Bay of Pigs, brigade participants will visit important historic and cultural sites and take part in seminars on important issues facing Cuba and the world, including the International Conference of Solidarity with Cuba.

ICAP points out that this is a very interesting time to visit Cuba. “Our working class, together with our all people, is the main protagonist for the reorganization that is now facing Cuba’s economy, whose final goal is to strengthen our socialist system ...

“The open and frank discussion that is taking place across our nation today about the Guidelines for Economic and Social Policy for the Sixth Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba, to be held this April, is an exemplary exercise in Cuba’s participative democracy and our people’s decision-making about their destiny.”

In addition to international and domestic airfares, the brigade will cost A$320 — covering accommodation in shared rooms at the International Camp Julio Antonio Mella in Caimito, 45 kilometres from Havana City, full board and transport to all program activities.

Registrations close on April 20. For more information, email the Asia and Pacific Division of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples at dasia@icap.cu or the Cuban Consulate in Australia at conscuba@cubamission.com.
