Police block march

Issue

The local Reclaim the Night rally, held on October 27, attracted 130 people. The rally demanded an end to sexual assault and violence against women and children.

Police had demanded $300 as payment for rostering a crew for the RTN march. A permit to march, without payment, has been provided in previous years. Jo Piggot, spokesperson for the RTN organising committee, said the police did not respond to a letter asking for the fee to be waived. She said RTN was unable to have a march because of this.
