Why
Now is the time to fight.
Newly installed Victorian Labor Premier Ben Carroll has introduced legislation to Parliament that threatens to shut down RAFFWU as an incorporated association.
The SDA are furious that for the past 9 years RAFFWU overturned countless of their dodgy agreements that traded away penalty rates and left workers worse off than the absolute minimum. They are terrified that RAFFWU's meteoric rise and the SDA's catastrophic decline will continue unless they can lobby the Labor Party to change the law to shut RAFFWU down.
This bill is an attack on the principle of freedom of association, and the right of retail and fast food workers to organise in a democratic genuine fighting Union.
But we cannot sit patiently and just rely on politicians to make the right decision. There is only one sitting week of Parliament left before the Victorian state election. Now is the time to take to the streets to defend RAFFWU.
RAFFWU calls on all members and supporters to make our outrage heard. At 1pm on Saturday 5 September, we will rally directly outside the headquarters of the Victorian Labor Party in Docklands.
We call on Labor to drop its union-busting legislation and on the Victorian Parliament to vote it down.
