Why
Democracy Is Dead (well, almost...)
In March the LNP State Government passed legislation that allowed Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Shrinner and LNP Councillors to push through changes to Meetings Local Laws WITHOUT CONSULTATION OR DEBATE.
Opposition councillors are now BANNED from accessing information on projects, including:
- The sale of public assets (e.g.Barrambin/Victoria Park, VISY Site, Coorpooroo Bowls Club, etc.).
- The Story Bridge (Which is currently facing severe structural issues from years of neglect)
- The Metro
- Road upgrades
Opposition Councillors are also no longer allowed to ask questions or access information outside of their ward AND civic cabinet documents are sealed away for A DECADE.
What this means: The people of Brisbane will be unaware of major city changing decisions and information until the decision is made & opposition councillors are discouraged from calling out corrupt behaviour by means of excessive punishment.
We’re organising a public mourning procession in response to these undemocratic changes and to let the State and Local governments know we’re not happy about it.
See you there.
