Why

Pedal Party Magandjin presents the Ride for Revolution – a rolling ride through the streets of Magandjin to celebrate the feminist history of our town.

Jump on your wheels and join us for the feminist ‘revolution’!

Susan B Anthony, a leading suffragette declared that the bicycle had done “more to emancipate women than anything else in the world.” They became important tools in the fight for women’s rights across the world, including in Brisbane.

COST: IS FREE. But this event is a fundraiser for Women’s House Shelta and Brisbane Rape and Incest Survivors Support Centre (BRSSC). When you register you can select a paid ticket to support their important work.

Starting in Woolloongabba we’ll make stops at historical sites and share stories of feminist resistance through the years.

Magandjin has a rich history of women change makers - from the famous Queensland suffragette Emma Miller who fought for women’s and labour rights, to prominent Aboriginal activist, author and poet Oodgeroo Noonuccal.

We’ll finish at the Regatta Hotel for a drink at the infamous watering hole where in 1965 Merle Thornton and Rosalie Bogner famously chained themselves to the bar to protest the fact that it was illegal for women to be served alcohol in a public bar.

WHO: Everyone! We have folks in roles to keep you safe on the roads, but this ride is recommended for ages 12 and up.

WHERE: This ride is taking place on the stolen lands of the Jagera and Turrbal people. We’ll start in Woolloongabba and finish at the Regatta Hotel in Toowong, making stops along the way.

This event celebrates feminist history and the movements that have fought for gender justice. We are committed to a trans-inclusive feminism and Pedal Party Magandjin supports the freedom of trans and gender-diverse people to be themselves, to have bodily autonomy, and to be safe in their communities.
