Why

Join us on April 2nd for a fundraiser screening of Persepolis, an animated memoir based on writer Marjane Satrapi’s coming-of-age graphic novel.

Beginning in 1978, Persepolis depicts the revolution against the Shah, the installation of dictator Khomeini, his theocratic regime, and the Iran-Iraq war. These historical events serve as the backdrop for the story, which explores the life of a young woman.

Tickets available from Trybooking.

Satrapi’s depiction of how the Iranian people have struggled against oppressive regimes and foreign imperial powers is directly relevant to contemporary Iranian experiences. It reminds us of how war devastates the lives of ordinary people.

The purpose of this viewing is to come together and reflect on the importance of self-determination for the people of Iran, and challenge the idea that regime change must be brought about through the violent intervention of hostile foreign powers. While also raising funds for Iranians in need!

Nibbles and refreshments will be provided. We will also be doing a prize raffle -- one raffle entry for every ticket purchased, with extra tickets available for purchase on the night!

Tickets available from Trybooking.
