Why
On the same day that the US put a pause on their relentless bombing of Iran, Israel has decided to carry out its most brutal and violent bombing of Lebanon since the start of the war. The scenes are horrific, with over 254 deaths, more buried under the rubble, and hundreds wounded.
In the past month we’ve witnessed war after war crime committed by Israel against the Lebanese people. Israel has murdered hundreds of people with bombing raids, drone attacks, and shootings. Despite the dubiously brokered ceasefire, Israel continues to murder Lebanese people, UN workers, blow up entire villages and schools, and expand their illegal occupation and control of the south of Lebanon.
Despite this clear disdain for human life and peace, governments like Australia have remained largely silent on the matter. Penny Wong and Anthony Albanese have expressed “grave concerns” while they continue to send F35 jet parts to Israel and refuse to sanction the state for its war crimes and illegal occupation.
This comes as no surprise as we have just witnessed 2 years of this same double standard during the genocide in Gaza.
