With a federal election coming up, the Morrison government is spending billions of dollars, as part of AUKUS, to build a nuclear submarine base on the east coast. The government tells us this massive increase in military spending is on the basis of "national security" and the need to prepare for a world of conflict.

Meanwhile, we are facing a cost-of-living crisis and a climate crisis. Northern NSW and Queensland are suffering from the impact of floods with a inadequate response from the government.

What is behind the immediate push for more militarism by the Morrison government and how can we fight back?
