Refugees rights meeting
PERTH On February 27, more than 30 students and staff attended the first meeting at Curtin University called to support the rights of asylum seekers and refugees. The forum was organised by Resistance and the Curtin Anti-war Group.Professor of health economics Gavin Mooney described the federal government's lack of compassion towards people fleeing repressive regimes. He spoke of how refugees have suffered physical and psychological abuse at the hands of guards inside the detention centres.
Resistance member Jane Armanasco urged participants to join the refugees' rights movement, on campus and in the broader community.
