West End Markets (run by Goodwill Projects) are attempting to close down the Palestine Fair Trade Australia stall.
Palestine Fair Trade Australia sells a unique range of ethically sourced and fair trade products from Palestine. All their proceeds are returned to purchase these artisan goods from Palestine, which supports Palestinian families, farmers, communities and artisans to maintain their lands, culture and heritage.
In recent months, volunteers at the stall in West End Markets have been attacked and the banner displaying the map of a disappearing Palestine map also targeted. Goodwill Projects management have now sent a notice to withdraw the contract from Palestine Fair Trade Australia to sell their wares on Saturday. Goodwill Projects holds a lease from Brisbane City Council to run the markets.
This is a repressive action. Goodwill Projects and Brisbane City Council must allow for the right of Palestine Fair Trade Australia to continue their stall and not fall to lobbyist pressure to silence them.
We are calling for anyone who supports Palestine to come and stand peacefully with the stall this Saturday. Our council and Goodwill Projects cannot pressure us to be silent. We will be meeting from 9am to stand peacefully with the stall and the volunteers in solidarity.
