@box text intr = PERTH — On May 9, 45 people attended a meeting to launch the Socialist Alliance in Western Australia. Roberto Jorquera from the Democratic Socialist Party and Wade McDonald from the International Socialist Organisation spoke about important openings for a left, activist alternative in the upcoming federal elections.

Most of those present at the meeting were involved in organising, or had participated in, the recent May 1 protests. A large proportion of people joined the alliance on the night.

The meeting resolved to support a planned protest outside Parliament House on May 22 when three One Nation MPs will be sworn in. The protest will highlight issues such as mandatory detention of refugees and Aboriginal deaths in custody.
