Facing ever increasing protest globally, Israel's far right government has once again chosen the path of escalation, initiating a war on Iran. This has nothing to do with any threat posed by Iran's nuclear program and everything to do with distracting attention from Israel's never-ending genocidal war on Palestinians. Meanwhile, the sanctions sanctions imposed by the governments of Australian, Canada, the UK, Norway and New Zealand on Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir are a thoroughly ineffectual response: two men are being punished for their spiteful words, while the state of Israel gets off scott free. Sanctions must be directed at the entire Israeli government, the military officers and the bureaucrats who are carrying out the slaughter in Gaza. We call on the Australian government to impose diplomatic and trades sanctions, and a two-way arms embargo on Israel now!
