Why

About 100 refugees brought to Australia under the Medevac legislate continue to be incarcerated at a hotel in Kangaroo Point. Some have been there nearly two years.

Before being locked-up in this hotel they were detained either on Nauru or PNG. In total they have now been detained for over seven years. There are other refugees in similar circumstances in the Park Hotel in Melbourne and in different detention centres in Australia.

The Medevac legislation was introduced in early 2019 by the then MP Dr Kerryn Phelps, but the re-elected Morrison government repealed it in late 2019. Prior to the Medevac laws, refugees held on Nauru and Manus Island often fought desperate battles in the Federal Court before receiving adequate medical care in Australia. This ongoing detention in Australia is political payback.

The government has recently released some but they are now being dumped into the community without any support. It's time to stop this to torture and demand that all the refugees be freed and given the permanent protection they're owned under refugee rights conventions. Please join our rally.
