Nuclear scoop

Green Left Weekly contributor Jim Green has brought to light some very interesting facts as part of his research for a PhD at Wollongong University.

Quoted in the Sydney Morning Herald of September 24, Green has exposed the flawed arguments and the misquoted evidence behind the federal government's decision to build a new nuclear reactor at Lucas Heights.

Green Left Weekly readers got the information a full two weeks before SMH readers, in our issue #289. And GLW readers got information that was far more comprehensive and complete. Further important information on the reactor and the problems of the nuclear industry are printed in this week's issue.

Scooping the establishment media on a major story isn't something we do every day — although some of our international articles, in particular, provide information that never gets into the commercial press. When it does happen, it's clearly not because we spend more money on a particular topic than the establishment media spend. It's because activists devote the time and effort to writing up their information and sending it in.

This is how Green Left Weekly is able to play a vital role not only in the fight against nuclear energy and uranium mining, but in a wide variety of progressive causes and campaigns.

But scoops are not useful if we can't get the word out to the thousands of people who rely on Green Left for their dose of real world politics every week. A donation to the Green Left Weekly fighting fund will enable us to continue production of the best progressive newspaper in Australia, and one of the best in the world.

Every dollar raised means that Green Left Weekly readers will continue to receive the news that the others often won't print because of their allegiances to government and big business.

By supporting the paper that is making a stand against environmental madness, you can help spread awareness of what needs to be done to challenge the status quo. Green Left Weekly — it's your paper.
