Jews Against the Occupation issued the following statement on October 18.

Jews Against the Occupation view with horror the prospect of imminent genocide in Gaza.

The suffering of the people of Gaza under blockade by Israel has continued for nearly two decades. The blockade was imposed because Israel and its international allies refused to accept the democratic election of Hamas as their government by the people of Palestine.

Now Israel hypocritically instructs the people of Gaza to, once again, leave their homes to avoid slaughter in the threatened total obliteration of their land by Israel.

Where should they go?

Why should they submit to another Nakba?

It is time for our government and the world to insist “Enough is enough”. Australia’s virtual endorsement of Israel’s ongoing criminal oppression and dispossession of Palestinians by asserting its “right to defend itself”, is totally in defiance of international law and human rights.

Jews against the Occupation urges Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong to immediately call for a ceasefire and return to international law.

We call on the Australian government to cease all military relationships with Israel until it lifts the brutal blockade on Gaza and releases Palestinian prisoners held indefinitely without charge or trial.
