Extinction Rebellion organised actions across Australia over October 1-4 calling on the federal government to commit to binding decisions on transitioning to net zero greenhouse gas emissions and to halt biodiversity loss by 2025.
Extinction Rebellion groups in Brisbane/Meanjin, Gippsland, Wingecarribee in the NSW Southern Highlands, Tasmania, Western Australia, north-east Victoria, Kangaroo Valley (NSW) and the ACT took civil disobedience actions, including swarms (short road blocks).
In WA, XR Grandparents protested outside the Perth headquarters of Chevron on October 2, chanting “No more gas, coal or oil. Keep your carbon in the soil!”
In Hobart on October 3, people marched, sang, drummed, chanted, danced and then “died” on intersections in the city’s streets with many young people taking part in the “dead sea” march.
