Anti-bill postering law debated

Issue

The ACT Legislative Assembly debated draconian anti-bill posting legislation on February 11. The legislation was introduced by the ALP.

The proposal penalties for putting up posters would be $10,000 for individuals — including event organisers — and $50,000 for organisations.

The ACT Greens opposes the legislation, which will now be discussed in an assembly committee, where the Greens will propose significant amendments.

Canberra Socialist Alliance spokesperson Farida Iqbal also denounced the anti-postering laws as an attack on free speech.
