Why

The housing crisis is the worst it's been since the 1930s. But the “solutions” being put forward by politicians go nowhere. More housing is being built than ever before, but the crisis just keeps getting worse.

Financial speculation and the hoarding of land by a tiny elite is driving up rents and the cost of housing. Relying on the market to provide places to live has created a housing crisis but non-market solutions are ignored by capitalist governments.

Speakers

  • Margaret Kelly, resisting the demolition of her public housing estate by the Victorian Labor government.
  • Sue Bolton, Merri-bek Socialist Alliance councillor.
  • Gabrielle De Vietri, Greens MP for Richmond.
