The Socialist Alliance is calling for a two-year rent freeze in its platform for the coming NSW state election, according to Rachel Evans, a housing rights activist and the party's candidate for the seat of Heffron.
Evans addressed and helped organise a broadly sponsored housing rights rally and march in Sydney on February 11.
"Rents in Sydney went up 23% last year and we are hearing of people who are being hit with a $300-a-week rent increase," she told the rally.
