A solidarity conference called, "Venezuela: The Revolution Continues" will be held in Sydney on October 6. It is sponsored by the Venezuelan Embassy in Australia and supported by the Australia-Venezuela Solidarity Network, the Bolivarian Circle and other organisations, including the Socialist Alliance.
Feature discussions will include: Ideology of the Bolivarian Revolution; Social and economic achievements; Truth and media lies about the revolution; and the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA). Speakers will include Venezuelan Ambassador Nelson Davila, academics, representatives of solidarity organisations and progressive parties, unions and Aboriginal community members.
Consular representatives are also being invited. A speaker from the Venezuelan revolutionary movement is expected to address the conference via Skype.
In the context of a concerted right-wing attack on the Bolivarian Revolution inside Venezuela and internationally, this conference is important in helping to counter the disinformation campaign against the Venezuelan revolution here in Australia. There are reports of a possible opposition meeting organised by conservative forces in the Venezuelan community in Melbourne the following weekend, October 11-12.
Plans are also in progress for a further solidarity conference with the Venezuelan Revolution in Melbourne on Sunday November 9 in Melbourne, organised by LASNET and the Venezuelan Embassy.
[The conference is being held from 9.30am to 5pm at the Redfern Town Hall, 73 Pitt Street, Redfern.]
