'More industrial pressure needed'

November 17, 1993
Issue

"The mood was excellent, and there's a much greater understanding out there about the issues than some people think. We need to put more industrial pressure on, have more demonstrations like this one, ongoing action to hit the bosses and the members of the BCA [Business Council of Australia] and the ACC [Australian Chamber of Commerce].

"When the federal ALP proves itself to workers, then people will come back behind it. The response to [Greens Senator] Bob Brown shows that people are behind the Greens because they're firm on their policies, whereas the ALP just chops and changes. Beazley's commitment to tear up the laws is the first sign of any sincerity on this issue."

Derrick Belan, NSW secretary of the National Union of Workers
