Mutiny: The True Story of Red October — Unlike the disaffected captain of a Russian nuclear submarine in Hollywood's version of events in The Hunt for Red October, Captain Valery Sablin was not a defector, but loyal to Communist ideals. Sablin had become sick of Politburo corruption and decided that his destroyer The Sentry was the ideal platform from which to launch a revolt. SBS, Friday, September 3, 2pm.

Human Cargo — Set in Canada and central Africa, this six-part mini-series is an unflinching look at the world of refugees, the people who sacrifice themselves to help them, and also those who exploit them. SBS, Friday September 3, 8.30pm.

John Safran versus God — John Safran scours the world in search of God... and finds him. Or, at least, a lot of folk who believe they have. SBS, Monday, September 6, 8.30pm.

Silent Scream — A story of resistance, rebellion and struggle by the women of Afghanistan that unveils the poignant personal testimonies of Afghan women who have survived 23 years of relentless war, betrayal by their own countrymen and the ruthless gender apartheid designed to erase them from public view. SBS, Tuesday, September 7, 12.35am.

Comandante — Director Oliver Stone shows Cuban leader Fidel Castro, who, for four decades and through ten presidents, has been a persistent thorn in the side of US administrations. Comandante provides a glimpse of the man behind the cigar and the beard. SBS, Tuesday, September 7, 10pm.

With God On Our Side: The Early Crusades — Over two episodes explores the rise of America's conservative evangelicals — a.k.a. the religious right, and presents a "religious biography" of United States President George Bush. ABC, Wednesday, September 8, 8.30pm.
