Happy new (financial) year

While our great parliamentary leader visits the cricket at Lords and enjoys tea and scones with the queen, those at Green Left are hard at work, going about producing a quality independent weekly newspaper.

But it takes more than hard work and dedication to continue the production of a 32-page newspaper of the calibre of Green Left Weekly.

As much as we would like to bring about a fairer and more just economic system, we still, unfortunately, have to work within the capitalist market economy. As a result, we constantly face the problem of paying the costs of production, from stationery, postage and freight charges, to the paper that Green Left is printed on.

Not depending on government funding or big business sponsorship helps ensure our political independence, but independence comes at a financial cost. The end of the financial year, when we have to settle accounts with our creditors, is a particularly tough time.

Can you lend a hand to ensure that Australia's best progressive paper has a happy new financial year? Your contribution to the Green Left Weekly Fighting Fund will play a part in keeping thousands of people, in Australia and overseas, in touch with events, news and campaigns on a weekly basis. Details of how you can donate to the Fighting Fund are on page 5. Green Left Weekly — it's your paper.
