Workers rally for secure jobs

Unionists and their families rallied for secure jobs on February 19 after a Senate committee found that job insecurity had reached a crisis point. The protest was organised by Hunter Workers. Speakers from the mining division of the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union, the University of Newcastle and the aged care sector told the crowd of about 150 people about how casualisation was wrecking people’s lives and job security. The protest marched down the main street chanting slogans. such as “Same job, Same pay”.
