Teachers walked off schools in Melbourne and Brisbane for refugee rights on Universal Children’s Day, November 20. The protests were supported by the Australian Education Union Victorian Branch and Queensland Teachers Unions.

The protests culminated a week of actions in which people around Australia wore blue to call on the government to evacuate all refugees from Nauru and Manus Island.

The actions have highlighted the serious mental health effects children are suffering in Nauru detention centre.
