Union Power

By Geoff Francis

The US Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees (UNITE!) has released a new CD by the Whiteville Choir — Union Power. The CD can be purchased on the internet at Hard Miles Music, <http://metalab.unc.edu/hardmile>.

The choir are members of UNITE Local 1077 in Whiteville, North Carolina. They have performed at music festivals, labour conferences, and picket lines across the US. The choir has been featured in SingOut magazine, Green Left Weekly, and the Independent.

A track from the current CD appeared on The Acoustic Rainbow (released by PoetMan Records) and received an enthusiastic response from DJs across the US, Europe and Asia.

"They are inspiring! ... To young and old ... to everyone", said Pete Seeger.

The CD contains original labour songs from a variety of writers and is produced by folk singer and union organiser Phil Cohen.
