On Saturday 28 June at 11am, the Sydney Road Accessible Tram Stops Now campaign will commemorate two years of Government inaction regarding accessible tram stops along Sydney Road before the construction of the second section of Sky Rail level crossing removals on the Upfield train line.
This is the anniversary no one wanted to have.
Two years of inaction and Government double speak that amount to nothing while residents are left not knowing how they will be able to live their lives when the Upfield train line is closed.
At the moment there are no accessible tram stops between Brunswick Road and Bakers Road, Coburg North - a 5.5km stretch. You can get on but you can’t get off!
The public rally is demanding accessible tram stops on Sydney Road because when the Upfield train line is closed for building Skyrail, there will be NO accessible public transport along the Upfield corridor, a high density population area, for at least 18 months while the build happens.
The solution is simple - the Victorian Government needs to guarantee the completion of accessible tram stops on Sydney Road before construction of the Sky Rail begins.
