We are calling for
- Immediate and Permanent Ceasefire: STOP THE GENOCIDE
- Australia break all ties with Israel, stop weapons exports, expel the Israeli ambassador
- NSW Education Department end the complicity, stop trying to silence voices for Palestine and peace
Israel has dropped the equivalent of three nuclear bombs on Gaza (65,000 tonnes of explosives).
Every day that Israel's genocide in Gaza continues, Israel massacres around 250 people, half of whom are children. Every day around 10 children are amputated without anaesthetic. Over 30,000 people have been killed, essentially the entire population of Gaza have been displaced, and over 70% of Gaza is unliveable. 9 in 10 people in Gaza have gone without food for over 24 hours.
As teachers and school staff, we won't be silent, especially when the Australian and NSW government's are backing Israel, and have instructed their Education Departments to try to shut down all discussion on Palestine.
The Australian government, with the help of a compliant media, is attempting to cover up a genocide happening in full public view, and in real time on social media. To do so they lie, they use Islamophobia, they use false allegations of anti-Semitism, and more and more they just stop reporting what is happening. No TV station broadcast South Africa's genocide case against Israel. Coverage of Israeli war crimes, and human stories of Palestinian suffering, are kept to a bare minimum, if reported at all (compare Al Jazeera coverage, to any Australian news outlet).
In response to this deathly silence, we need to be loud, we need to make Palestine visible. We need to stop politicians giving political cover to genocide, we need to stop the complicity of the school system which refuses to talk about the genocide in Gaza, and still allows weapons companies that supply Israel, like Raytheon, BAE systems and Boeing to also sponsor programs that students participate in.
We are starting by making Palestine visible in our schools on February 13. Join us
