On 26 January, Israeli occupation forces carried out a massacre in Jenin refugee camp. During a 5-hour killing spree, nine Palestinians were killed, including a 61-year-old woman, Majda Obaid, and two children, aged 16 and 17. Their killers arrived in a cheese van.
This is the latest atrocity of many carried out by Israel's apartheid regime. Israel's new, far-right government is determined to physically destroy any Palestinian resistance to its occupation: an Israeli Knesset member tweeted "keep killing them" after the raid.
In the first month of 2023, 30 Palestinians have been killed; at least 220 were killed last year, including 48 children.
What do we hear from the Australian government? Nothing. US assistant secretary for Near Eastern affairs Barbara Leaf has described civilian casualties in Jenin as “quite regrettable”. Yet Washington continues to bankroll the Israeli military.
Enough is enough! The killings must stop! Join us for a protest in the Murray Street Mall, underneath the overpass.
