MELBOURNE — The Melbourne West branch of the Socialist Alliance on August 27 selected Justine Kamprad as its candidate for Footscray in the next Victorian election.

Kamprad is an activist in the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union and was a delegate at the union's recent national conference. She has been involved in organising the annual International Women's Day for the last several years.

The Socialist Alliance's Footscray campaign will concentrate on three issues: defence of the militant leadership of the Victorian AMWU branch; the demand that the Maribyrnong immigration detention centre be closed; and opposition to any US war on Iraq.
