Rally for justice and land rights planned

PERTH — The coalition Action Against Racism is organising a rally on Saturday, August 30, under the title "Rally for Justice and Land Rights". It will primarily call for rejection of Howard's 10 point plan on Wik, but also take up a range of other issues.

Arun Pradhan, spokesperson for Action Against Racism commented, "While we have to continue battling Hanson and One Nation, it is essential that anti-racist groups also expose and fight the government's policies that institutionalise racism. That is why the rally will demand that the government grant real land rights and reject the 10 point plan, which extinguishes native title.

"We are also demanding adequate funding for Aboriginal groups and the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission, and implementation of the royal commission recommendations into black deaths in custody."

The rally will feature a range of Aboriginal and anti-racist speakers and will be held at 10am, August 30, outside Wesley Church in the city. To get involved or to help publicise the event, call Action Against Racism on 227 7367 or 276 9144.
