At the Aboriginal Passport ceremony in The Settlement in Redfern on September 15, Aboriginal activist and socialist Ray Jackson issued an Aboriginal Passport to Julian Assange. It was accepted by Julian's father John Shipton. The ceremony was initiated by Palestinian rights activist Rihab Charida as a demonstration of respect for Aboriginal sovereignty by the immigrants to this land. Passports were also issued to many other immigrants, including former Guantanamo detainee Mamdouh Habib.
