Getting lost

"Australia is, technically speaking, in Oceania." — Alexander Downer denying geography after Liberal polling has revealed concerns about Australia becoming "Asianised" and losing its European culture.

Gone off

"There is no doubt Brian is acutely aware that his use-by date is fast approaching." — An unnamed MP quoted in the Sydney Morning Herald, July 23.

Why start worrying now?

"The problem isn't how to get the marines in, it's how to get them out." — The Bulletin arguing against a US invasion of Haiti.

Stealing policies?

"I expect Labor will adopt a dirty tricks campaign ... they will attempt to smear everyone because that is the way they play the game." — NSW Premier John Fahey, getting in early with the mud-slinging.

At least he's not on TV ...

"It is time we began to look seriously at this issue and to properly assess the destructiveness and waste of the current child welfare system." — Alan Jones explaining how child welfare is the reason for much of societies' woes.
