Why

It is 80 years since the USA stealthily detonated an atomic bomb over the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki resulting in thousands of deaths, massive destruction and long-term suffering of those who survived the blast.

The Hibakusha (survivors of the bombings) have been wonderful advocates across the decades as to why nuclear bombs are evil, devastating and need to be banned.

SATURDAY 9TH AUGUST 11AM – 2PM

TIGHES HILL PEACE PARK

OPPOSITE TIGHES HILL TAFE

The wonderful Newcastle Peoples’ Chorus  and Matthew and Cathy Clarke will entertain us.

The BBQ is booked and food will be available.

Speakers are:

Leigh Shears -- Secretary Hunter Workers - (Newcastle Trades Hall Council)

Nick Deane -- Marrickville Peace Group

Hunter Peace Group has lobbied against nuclear armaments, submarines, waste dumps, the expansion of nuclear arsenals by  the 9 countries that own them who during 2024 spent over $100 billion dollars on upgrading them.  Somewhat abhorrent don't you think?  And many more aspects of the militarisation of Australia.
