ADELAIDE — More than 100 workers rallied to a sausage sizzle outside the Workcover offices on January 17 in an initial protest against the state Liberal government's plan to "outsource" (contract out particular jobs) parts of the organisation. The state government appears determined to continue to disregard recommendations from its own 1994 Audit Commission Report which stated that there was no perceived advantage from privatisation. A further rally is planned for February 15 at 12.30pm on the steps of Parliament House. The United Trades and Labour Council is supporting the campaign.

MELBOURNE — The International Women's Day Collective has begun meeting to plan IWD '95. Every year the collective organises a rally, march, festival and dance for women to celebrate International Women's Day to build solidarity with one another and to campaign for women's rights. This year the rally and celebration will be held on Friday, March 10. The collective meets each Thursday at Ross House, 247 Flinders Lane. For more information phone Velissa on 528 6003, Kelly on 486 1756 or Sue on 329 1320/329 1277.

NEWCASTLE — The 1995 International Women's Day Collective met on December 10 to start organising for IWD '95. The march will be on March 11 and will raise demands for choices for women around the world (reproductive choices, funding for refuges, child care) on the basis that without such options, women's ability to exercise control over their lives is limited. For more information, phone Margaret on 265 328.
