Tens of thousands of people rallied across Italy on March 1 to defend and extend the rights of immigrants, on a day that organisers dubbed “St. Papers”.
Greece has been brought to a standstill by a general strike, with key union groups leading up to two million workers in a 24-hour stoppage against the government’s austerity program.
“Got any thoughts on the bomb?” I asked breathlessly down the phone to a veteran Athens politics-watcher.
“Hey I have been down to their ‘convergence’ centre and they are really organised … specific plans and hand signals etc.”
