Why

You are invited to come along to watch the brilliant documentary Palestinians Don't Need Sidewalks with a much needed debrief afterwards.

I recently watched this film and came away feeling compelled to get as many people as possible to experience it.

I would like to encourage you to invite someone along, who normally doesn't engage with what's happening in Palestine.

I strongly believe that films like this deserve a conversation afterwards and I'm thrilled that Yousef has agreed to come along to share his heart & knowledge (and family story).

In case you don't know, Yousef Alreemawi is a multi-talented and award-winning intellectual of Palestinian origin.

Despite his mobility disability, Yousef has excelled in several domains. Besides lecturing in Arabic and being a translator, he also is a musician, political analyst and writer.

He founded and led many grassroots initiatives that have made a significant impact on Australian society. These include: Palestine Remembered program on Radio 3CR; The ASPIRE refugee project; Tarab Ensemble; and Averroes Centre of Arab Culture.

In recognition of his work, Yousef has won numerous awards including: the Eureka Australia Medal in 2017, The Palestinian of the Year in 2021, which is an international award endorsed by the Palestinian Ministry of Culture, and the Ambassador for Peace Award by The Universal Peace Federation in 2025.

Please be at FOMO Cinema 3:45pm. The film starts at 4pm. For scheduling updates check the Humanitix event or contact Veronica 0401 755 061.

Location

Fundraising

100% of the profits of the ticket sales will go to Yousef to pay him for his time and expertise as well as expenses relating to activism for Gaza.

Donations & raffle

Anyone can purchase raffle tickets, not just those attending the film.

100% of the profits will go to Defence For Children International - Palestine.

They are an NGO that support children being held in administrative detention & prison in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. They document illegal occupation and have powerful content on their website.

Gratitude

Very big thanks and respect to Dare to Struggle Films who donated this viewing to us. It would be wonderful if you could thank them by organising your own viewing to share with your circles. Apparently their other film, Palestine Under Siege is just as good.

Raffle

Various Happily Made handicrafts will be used as prizes...along with the best cheesecake you'll ever taste to the person who purchases the most raffle tickets :)
