Why

Come along if you are angry and disappointed at the decision by Maribyrnong Council to use local laws officers and security to respond to social and health issues in Footscray, and if you would like to help develop alternative community-positive responses.

Experts agree that “antisocial” behaviour is the product of our social, economic and environmental conditions. We are in the middle of cost of living and housing crises which are hitting some Maribyrnong residents extremely hard. The evidence is clear that to address and prevent public behaviours of “concern”, real measures that address the root causes of that behaviour – poverty, mental distress, trauma, homelessness and housing insecurity, and social exclusion – are required.

The Maribyrnong Council program, however, proposes to respond to the behaviour itself rather than its causes, using ineffective, short-term and criminogenic measures.
Footscray needs support that works for all our community not just some!

Thursday August 14, 6pm. St John’s Hall 30A Pickett Street Footscray.
