Stephen Spence is a committed socialist, unionist and social activist. Prior to 20 years in England, he was a Port Adelaide City Councillor, the Secretary of the Media, Arts and Entertainment Alliance, President of the UTLC (Unions SA) and an activist for peace and social justice.
In England he was a senior management member of Equity (performing arts and entertainment union), active in the unions international federation and a member of the Trade Union Congress General Council, whilst working politically at a local level to develop a powerful residents’ action group.
This eventually gained significant influence in all three levels of local government, and had some astounding achievements. The unfolding story of the Farnham Residents has important implications for political action in Australia, and possibly for our upcoming State elections.
