When
Where
Why
Come along for an action-packed workshop on preparing costumes and props for life in the petrostate. We need your grit and determination, creativity and “flare” now that we’ll all be living in a permanent state of excitement with the announcement of the NW Shelf approval!
This is the fourth workshop in the Creative Activism 2025 series in the aftermath of the State and Federal elections and the disastrous NW Shelf Approval. Join the fun and creativity as we get down to actual production of materials for future actions to protest Australia’s biggest and worst climate decision.
WORKSHOP OUTLINE
For this hands-on workshop, we will continue working on the projects we brainstormed and sparked off in the first workshop and support their creative development - from the concept creation, technical production, finishing, delivery and performance.
To stimulate ideas and creative development, several ‘incubators’ will join us (subject to availability).
1. the art of costuming (Cerrie Beech and Sally Knowles)
2. writing satire for street theatre (Colin Young with Dodgy Steve/Fracker Fred)
3. preparing props (WAAPA Design graduate)
4. developing your character/persona and embodying the costume (Pirate Jesse)
5. using comedy as a disruptor/conductor for social change (Gerard Mazza and his infamous featherless hat!)
6. logistics, scoping locations, due diligence and rehearsal (all presenters)
WHAT TO BRING
Bring your team members, materials for making costumes, puppets, effigies, signs/banners, street theatre scripts, costumes, props, sketch pad, etc.
POST-ELECTION STRATEGY
In Workshop 1 we identified the following campaign areas:
1. Palestine
2. Fossil Fuels / Climate Crisis
3. Affordable Housing
4. AUKUS
WORKSHOP OUTCOMES
You will leave with:
• a creative team and plenty of inspiration with which to connect with a community of like-minded changemakers who will encourage and empower you;
• a priority plan for our artivist actions for stopping Woodside’s climate-wrecking and indigenous cultural trashing project
• a strategy for offsetting Watt-the-f**k’s preposterous environmental agenda;
• a swag of political strategies with which to strategise the key issues for the 2025 elections;
• practical tips and ideas for future awe-inspiring creative actions;
• a toolkit of creative strategies;
• a network of other passionate artivists.
What else can I bring? At least one friend. And of course, great ideas!
We recognise that this meeting is taking place on stolen land. This is the land of the Whajuk Noongar people. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
