Issue

On January 28, security forces at the Cairo Book Fair arrested three activists associated with the Center for Socialist Studies, and charged them with disseminating false propaganda against the ruling regime. The first to be arrested were Mawa Farouk, a member of the bar association, and Baho Abdallah, a non-Egyptian postgraduate student at the American University in Cairo. Ibrahim El Sahari was arrested at the police station, and also charged with aggression against a police officer. Police seized centre publications including all copies of their book, Socialists Route to Change: A Militant Vision for Egypt, and of their journal Socialist Papers. Messages of solidarity can be sent to <socialistcenter@yahoo.com>.
