Land and Freedom

Socialist director Ken Loach's marvellous film about the Spanish Civil War is at last coming to television. Land and Freedom tells the story of David, young and unemployed, who leaves Liverpool to join an international brigade of the republican militia to fight against Franco's fascists. David and his comrades' experiences at the front and in Barcelona are shaped by the Spanish workers and peasants' courageous struggle for land and freedom, and their betrayal by the Stalinist Spanish Communist Party. Screening on ABC TV on Friday, February 12, at 8.30pm. Don't miss it.
