Every week, dedicated Green Left Weekly supporters hit the streets to present the news and ideas excluded from the mainstream media. These ideas help us better understand the world around us and expose the lies and distortions of the corporate elite.
At the same time, supporters tirelessly organise fundraisers to help keep GLW a dynamic, independent media outlet. Thanks to them — and many other contributors — we've so far raised $35,000 for our 2010 fighting fund.
In Brisbane earlier this month, a Twilight River Cruise was organised. About 70 people enjoyed pleasant views of the Brisbane River, delicious international food and wonderful live entertainment. They raised $600 for GLW.
In Sydney, supporters organised a simple second-hand book sale and sausage sizzle. They raised more than $500. In Wollongong, at a local campaigning stall, a Socialist Alliance member handed over a cheque for $2500 to the fighting fund!
Over the course of this year, many more of these events will take place all over Australia. They take time, energy and enthusiasm to organise. They are not easy to pull off. But with your help and support we can keep morale and spirits high throughout 2010.
With your help, these events can be not only successful fundraisers, but fun, informative and downright inspiring. GLW is your paper. As a grassroots publication, it thrives on your participation.
