On June 21, killer cop Zachary Rolfe was scheduled to speak at a policing conference in Parramatta. After support grew for our planned march on this event, it has now been cancelled.
Rolfe may have backed down but it’s important to press ahead with this rally. Keep up the momentum for justice for Kumanjayi White and all those who have been killed in custody.
The Country Liberal Party (CLP) government in the NT is on a racist rampage, refusing to grant the demands of Kumanjayi White’s family and community at Yuendumu for an independent inquiry, release CCTV footage or stand down officers involved. And this week CLP has just announced an unacceptable plan to give guns to security guards on buses and public housing estates!
A key demand of the Yuendumu community following the shooting of Kumanjayi Walker was for guns to be taken off police. Now the CLP is virtually declaring “open season” on Aboriginal people! The CLP have also cancelled a review into racism in the NT police.
June 21 marks 18 years since the NT Intervention, a racist apartheid regime that the CLP are intensifying. And Black incarceration is at record rates Australia wide.
Rolfe may have retreated from the speaking platform in Parramatta, but we all need to step up!
