Israel’s bombing of Iran is a dangerous and horrific escalation that threatens to drag the entire region into deeper war and destruction. This violence is part of the same brutal project of occupation, apartheid, and colonial domination that Israel has waged against Palestinians for over 75 years.
Right now, while launching bombs at Iran, Israel is continuing its genocide in Gaza. Just this week, over 100 Palestinians were massacred by Israeli forces as they gathered for aid. This is part of a deliberate, systematic effort to starve, displace, and annihilate Palestinians.
And yet, our government shamefully led by Penny Wong and Anthony Albanese, continues to parrot the line that “Israel has a right to defend itself.”
This is not self defence.
Bombing starving Palestinians is not self-defence.
Launching missiles at Iran is not self-defence.
This is imperialism. This is aggression. This is genocide.
The war on Iran represents a major escalation, but the bloodshed didn’t start this week — Israel’s campaign of ethnic cleansing and war crimes against Palestinians has been going on for decades, propped up by billions of dollars in military aid from the United States.
Enough is enough.
Israel must be sanctioned.
Australia must break all military, economic, and diplomatic ties with this genocidal regime. No trade. No weapons. No cooperation.
We must also stand against Australia’s close alliance with the United States, an empire that has armed, funded, and defended Israel’s crimes for generations. Australia should not be complicit in this bloodshed for the sake of US imperial power.
