Why

Join us at this film screening event of The Encampments, a film that offers an urgent, intimate portrait of America’s student movement, ignited at Columbia University as students protested their universities’ ties to the war on Gaza.

Their actions sparked a nationwide uprising, with encampments spreading across hundreds of campuses, including Australian universities such as Australian National University, University of Sydney, and others.

The film will be followed by a conversation with Dr Nick Riemer and Professor John Keane who are academics at the University of Sydney and long-time advocates of freedom and justice for Palestinians, and supporters of the USyd encampment. Nick and John's are currently being sued for race hate by the Israel lobby on account of their advocacy for Palestine. This screening is a fundraiser for their legal defence.

At this conversation, we will discuss university activism for Palestine and discuss how we can mobilise on university campuses.

We will also host food stalls for Palestinian families from Gaza including the delicious @yafasweet_ and others.
